THE MEAT SHALL INHERIT
Clarence Kiddler believed he could create a utopian society within his own family by teaching strange, "important" traditions from a variety of cultures. After his death, his three children must come to terms with their bizarre upbringing. They gather to partake in his final request, while trying to juggle the issues of their own lives: Preston has problems maintaining a girlfriend for more than a month and his latest flame, Chloey, is approaching three weeks; Melanie works ninety hour weeks as a defense attorney with a slew of outrageous clients ncluding Vince, a man who believes he is in love with a cat; and Christian, the black sheep of the family, who has used his childhood teachings to create his own religion, The Berlians of the New Order. Will the siblings respect their father’s final wish or will the history of the infamous Times Square incident tear this family apart once and for all?
The Meat Shall Inherit was the third original comedy by David Gallic procued by Twilight Repertory Theatre. The first two, Off Book and Bottled Youth, were both very successful and audiences were looking forward to a third. David has moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in both theatre and film, but he is also working on another script, the idea for which he developed with Max Blonde during rehearsals for others shows with TRT. The new play would involve a hotel run by Nicola (from Arms And The Man) and staffed by Diggory, a minor character who threatened to take over TRT's production of Goldsmith's She Stoops To Conquer). We will keep our fingers crossed and hope that another wonderful David Gallic comedy will be coming our way. It is hard to imagine a Portland without a David Gallic comedy to warm our hearts during the long wet winters.
